Transportation
Transportation to and from school is the responsibility of the parent/guardian, as noted in the school act, however The Board of Education may provide transportation services in the form of a school bus, public transportation, or transportation assistance.
Specifically, SD20 will provide service within the following criteria for eligible ridership on the District’s student transportation system to and from catchment school, and one residence plus one alternate ride to and from a second residence or daycare.
Eligible ridership criteria:
a) Reside in the serviced zone which is:
- Beyond 2 km from their catchment school for grades K -7
- Beyond 3 km from their catchment school for grades 8-12
b) The distance is measured from the recognized public road access of the student’s property to the nearest catchment school or bus stop by pathway or roadway.
c) To maintain eligible ridership status, students must ride 20% of the time (two out of 10 rides per week).
d) Catchment areas for the purposes of these regulations shall be determined by the Board. Where the Board declares a specific program, conducted at a specific site to be a District Program, transportation to that site shall be provided from the named access points within the district.
Parents are responsible for the safety of their children to and from school, and to and from the bus stop.
Each student must be registered for bussing in order to ride on a SD20 school bus. Each registered bus rider will be issued a bus pass in the form of a hard plastic card which is carried by the student. This pass must be presented each time the student boards and departs the school bus.
PARENTS WITH ACCURATE AND CURRENT INFORMATION ENROLLED WITH SCHOOL MESSENGER WILL BE NOTIFIED OF SCHOOL BUS ROUTE DELAYS IN EXCESS OF 20 MINUTES BY EMAIL AND PHONE.
